Oracle 9i New Features

 This is an introduction to some of Oracle 9i’s new features and enhancements to database performance, scalability, ease of use and management.  Suggestions for further reading and links to other Oracle resources are available here. Oracle continue to enhance the database in many areas but with release 9i, particular attention has been given to the features oriented towards large customers (unsurprisingly as they spend the most money and have the most demanding requirements) by increasing performance and scalability but at the same time making the database easier to manage to reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) - an area where Microsoft was becoming increasingly competitive. Changes have been made to Oracle 9i to improve the following technical aspects of the database :- • performance • ease of management • scalability • security • availability as well as the integration with Windows and the following application areas: • Internet content management • E-commerce integration • packaged applications • Business Intelligence These articles just highlight a few of the more interesting or important new features in Oracle 9i.
